chazhead Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 Just thought I'd share my problem/solution with you nice folks should anyone else experience the same issue. Symptom: I change my oil and filter every six months and am religious about checking the level (painful experience from the past) but a few days ago the oil pressure light would flicker on once the engine was hot and the engine speed dropped back down to tick over or if the car was braked heavily. Garage suggestion: Local garage suggested changing oil & filter, which I did with no improvement. Next suggestion was the oil pressure sender, which was changed without improvement. Final solution: I dug around on the TIS and found the section on how to check the oil pressure, and one of the possible causes for low oil pressure at low engine speed was a blocked oil pickup in the sump. Whacked the Gal on the stands, drained the new oil (grrrrr) dropped the sump and low and behold the gauze covering the oil pick up was covered in sludge, cleaned it all up chucked it all together and now more low oil light flickering. Hope this helps anyone else out. Cheers Quote
jack.spratt Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 Thanks, I'm getting similar symptoms - but also when tearing up a steep hill. Did it once in 80 miles. Quote
